buhuWhatsApp away message – setup and limits
An away message tells clients: “I'll get back to you later.” That beats silence – but many clients simply write to the next one.
How to set it up (WhatsApp Business)
- Open WhatsApp Business → Settings → Business tools → Away message.
- Turn on “Send away message” and write the text – in German for your clients, e.g. „Bin gerade beschäftigt, melde mich gleich 💋“ (busy right now, back soon).
- Choose the schedule: always, custom schedule or outside of business hours.
- Choose recipients, e.g. everyone or only numbers not in your address book.
Normal WhatsApp has no away message – for that you need WhatsApp Business.

Away message not working?
- Normal WhatsApp: the away message only exists in WhatsApp Business.
- Phone off or no signal: WhatsApp Business only sends it when your phone has internet – not in flight mode.
- Scheduled outside business hours: then business hours must be set in your business profile.
- Recipients limited: if it only goes to numbers not in your address book, saved clients get nothing.
What it can't do
- It answers no question – not the price, not the time, not the place.
- It's always the same, whatever the client writes.
- It doesn't make bookings.
